Otaku (hardcore anime fans) are the key to success. Anime is still a fledgling market in the States (and elsewhere), and the only way it is going to succeed here is to appeal to both the mainstream and them. They brought it here; they grounded it here. The same applies for American anime. If it is to be accepted as a mainstream genre, it must first be accepted and praised by the underground. Only otaku can validate it at this point because it is underground. To the mainstream American anime still seems like a fad or a parody. That is reflected by even anime fans' refusal to accept it. Win the fans, win the U.S.
That's how I see it anyway. Feel free to disagree.
Statement of Purpose
This blog began as an assignment for a class of mine; however, I plan to continue posting in it long after the class is over. This subject of this blog is Anime-influenced animation (also known as fauxanime, American anime, etc etc) and Original English-language manga. I strongly support the industry of anime-influenced animation and OEL manga, and I will be examining various topics and controversies within the genre. I will also explore the industry in non-Asian countries (such as Canada and the EU). Posts will include thoughts on the industry, essays, reviews, and hopefully interviews eventually.
